BQ is the second-largest smartphone manufacturer in Spain. One of its biggest endeavors is to inspire the next generation of engineers.
And the video at the top of this page will certainly do just that.
BQ’s CEO, Alberto Mendez, has built a robot kit for kids that enables them, for under $100, to create their own robot using drag-and-drop programming – and it’s all open source. It’s an admirable aim and the results so far are super cute. Check out our video of the robot dancing like Michael Jackson.
The Michael Jackson-dancing robot was created using this kit. Check it out, it’s pretty crazy how good the robot’s dance moves are.
The whole project is based on open source hardware and software. Mendez explained that he wants to inspire the next generation to get into design, programming, and mechanical engineering. Allowing kids to get hands-on time building a robot is a great way to do it, compared to the abstraction of traditional classroom education in math and the sciences
