Khanderi Cricket Stadium gets Power from the Solar Energy in Rajkot city of India

India is really harping on the renewable energy to satisfy the energy requirements. Now, the three-year-old Saurashtra Cricket Association’s Khanderi Stadium on Sunday became the second stadium in the country, after Chennai’s M A Chidambaram Stadium, to become a solar-powered venue, SCA announced.

The Khanderi stadium, which hosted its first international match on January 11, 2013 between India and England, is one of the finest cricket stadiums in the country. Players, former greats, officials and spectators whoever have been to the stadium have fallen in love with it.

The SCA stadium, spread across sprawling 30 acres of land and built at a cost of Rs 75 crore, has in fact fulfilled a long-standing need for a world class stadium in the region.
SCA Stadium, situated 15 kms from the Rajkot city on the road to Jamnagar, has installed 50 KWP solar rooftop system which was inaugurated before the commencement of the third ODI between India and South Africa.
Benefit of being a Solar-powered stadium
With the new solar plant, the stadium’s monthly electricity bill will now be reduced by around Rs. 54,600. The plant will generate 6833 units of solar power per month, about 82,000 units per year. Additionally, it will help in saving 50 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission in a year, thanks to its new 50 KWP solar rooftop system.
Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) is the governing body of cricket activities in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat and is affiliated to the Board of Control for Cricket in India. According to a PTI report, SCA also plans to add more capacity to the plant in the near future, with a view towards protecting the environment.
The project has been designed and executed by Germany-based solar company, PV Line Pvt Ltd. and the stadium is now eco-friendly. The stadium has utilised the space for helping to protect the environment, as reported Zee News
