Today, the solar industry is entering a dynamic new phase of solar storage market and application development.
Companies from both the solar and the storage industry are coalescing around the concept of pairing the two technologies and explore the potential energy saving technologies in this arena.
Various established organizations and new start-ups are aiming to capture a piece of the anticipated market surge.

Entrepreneurs Farid Dibachi and Kraig Clark have founded an innovative energy storage company ‘JLM Energy’ in 2011, to produce solar-plus-storage and storage-only systems that help homeowners and businesses save power for when they need it.
JLM Energy aims to optimize energy use and maximize savings for users with renewable energy products that includes solar, energy storage, monitoring devices, algorithms, and load controllers.
“If you look at any one of our competitors’ systems, even the most advanced systems that are out there, they can either send the power that is generated by the solar panel to the grid or send it to the batteries. We’re the only company that has created a piece of technology that can do both at the same time,” Dibachi said.
Its revolutionary small battery pack ‘Phazr’, a new MicroStorage category, which directly mounts seamlessly beneath an individual solar panel on the same rails and next to the inverter, eliminates installation costs and forms a highly scalable solar plus energy storage system.
MicroStorage is the first solution that enables the dual supply of power from solar to batteries and the grid simultaneously.
Phazr uses JLM Energy’s patent-pending Symmetric DC Regulation. It is scalable and can be used for utility-scale systems as well as commercial and residential applications.
This thin rectangular battery of a small brief case size – 20 inches by 10 inches weighs only appx 15 pounds. It can also be easily retrofitted to existing solar systems and is field replaceable.
It operates at a low voltage of 20-40V and uses lithium ion phosphate batteries, which is chemically, structurally and thermally safe.
It safely withstands simulated abuse conditions that include extreme heat, drop and impact tests, subjected to 120 hours of testing at 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
Phazr has two models: one designed for 60-cell solar panel that provides 300 watts power and 650 watt-hours of energy, and one designed for 72-cell solar panels at 350 watts and 810 watt-hours. That’s about 2.3 hours of duration.
Its technology enables a solar panel to charge a battery and send power to a home or building at the same time and excess energy can then be stored in the battery for use 24-hours a day. (Source: JLM Energy)
