How to Write an ICO White Paper That People Will Actually Read

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, then you need to learn that cryptocurrencies are in high demand right now. And, we’re not talking only about the popular ones, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum or IOTA.

More and more people are jumping on the bandwagon and creating their own cryptocurrencies, hoping that their ideas and technology will change the world for the better (or that they will at least get extremely rich in the process.)

However, you can’t just let the world know about your Initial Coin Offering (ICO) and hope that they will invest in your alt-coin. You also have to offer some proof that the coin is legitimate and that the technology behind it can deliver on your promises.

In other words, you need to create a thorough white paper that presents your hypothesis and the arguments that support it.

If you’ve never written such a technical paper, then the task can seem rather daunting. Here are a few tips on how to go about it.

Decide on the Author

So you want to create a white paper for your ICO, but English is not your first language, and you’re not that good of a writer anyway. What do you do?

The most comfortable option is just to hire someone to do the work for you. A white paper writers service, for instance, can connect you with the right writer who has the right knowledge to tackle your project and turn it into an authoritative report.

However, if you can’t afford to hire a professional, you could just try to write it yourself. After all, a tech white paper should focus on the information it presents, not on the style. If the information you’re presenting is accurate, you did your job.

Stick to the Format

Instead of putting the content of your white paper on your website, you should try to create a PDF format. Sure, PDFs have several vulnerabilities – they can easily crash your browser, they can be edited and then redistributed by virtually anyone, and most of all, they are difficult to create. However, dealing with all of these problems will prove you’re going all in with the project.

Pay attention to the length as well. Prospects want to get as much information as possible before deciding if your ICO is worth investing. Create a short overview for the impatient ones, but make sure to offer extensive details for those who want to learn how your altcoin will work.

Make a Structure and Fill It In

The easiest way to approach the writing process is by first creating a good structure and then filling it in with information. If you find it helpful, you can always start by employing the IRAC concept – issue, rule, analysis, and conclusion.

Before you write anything, take a few minutes to indicate a legal disclaimer with important restrictions and notifications at the beginning of the white paper and add a glossary of some of the basic terms you will be using throughout the piece.

You can then write the introduction, where you address future token holders, present an analysis of the target market, and mention any problems that you’ve identified. This part should be data-based and include facts and statistics from highly-reputable sources.

After that, it’s time to talk about the product. What is it and what are its components? Who are the people that participate in this project?

What about the tokens – what do they give, how many of them will be issued and what happens with the ones left unsold? How will you raise funds and how quickly will investors earn a profit? What will be the lifecycle of the project?

Treat your white paper as a business plan and use these questions as a structure you can then expand on.

Edit Your White Paper Carefully

As with any piece of writing, editing is a crucial part of the creation process. Now, that you have your white paper, start to pick at it slowly. Are there any words that might hinder the understanding of the phrase?

Are there parts where the wording could use a few more scientific terms? Are there any words that you could remove or add? Are your phrases as short as possible?

Have some clear questions in mind when you start editing your piece and refine it until it seems right.

Don’t feel intimidated by the number of pages you have to write. Approach it logically, write down a draft with all the questions you have to answer to, and you will see that the piece will practically write itself!

And, remember that if the task seems too challenging, you can always hire a professional white paper writer to do the hard work for you.
